Latimer-Hill-Register

The Latimer-Hill-Register House, c. 1927

560 Church Street

This charming bungalow-style house was built in 1927. The property was owned by the McNeel Marble Company and was sold to P.B. Latimer in 1928. The house was then purchased by Dr. Ralph Fowler and his wife Irma. Mrs. Fowler, a realtor, sold the house in the mid-1930’s to the infamous Virginia Hill for her mother to live there. She bought the house for $11,000 and paid cash for it (in $100 bills). Virginia always wanted her mother to live in the best part of town. Virginia was a “bag woman” for the mob and the mistress of Chicago mobster, Bugsy Siegel, the founder of Las Vegas. Bugsy named his hotel, The Flamingo, after her.

The house changed hands many times until purchased by the current homeowners, Kelly & Scott Register in 2003. The Registers completed a massive renovation & addition to the house. The new construction doubled the initial area of the house and added a second story. Careful attention was taken to preserve the original look of the house, so you will still see the original gables of the house are intact, with a higher pitch to match the addition of the second story. The Register’s home offers an eclectic combination of family heirlooms, antiques and modern furnishings.
