The Northcutt-Schillings-Fazzio House, c. 1918
486 Church Street
Noted residential builder, W.P. Stephens, built this charming bungalow for Floyd Northcutt and his bride, Annie Laurie Adams. The land was purchased from her aunt, Ada Freyer McNeel, who owned the adjoining property, Ivy Grove. The house is reminiscent of homes popular during this period with clapboard exterior, gabled roof, front porch with gable roof perpendicular to main roof and a veranda on the side of the house for enjoying cool summer weather. The home is built on a sixteen-inch granite foundation and of note is the unusual beveled glass 12-panel front door.
The Harold O. Schilling family, owners of the Schilling Hardware Store on the Marietta Square (now Shillings Restaurant), bought the home in the 1940’s and lived there for over 40 years. The Rev. Camille and Terry Hegg purchased the home in the mid-1980’s and did extensive renovation to the house, including adding a great room. It was then purchased by the Hansen family in 1998 who sold it to the current owners, Larry & Jan Fazzio, in 2003. The Fazzios have done several major projects to the house including gutting and upgrading the kitchen, enlarging the great room and adding a covered veranda. Combining two bedrooms and a bath created the master bedroom suite. The cabinets and floors in the great room and kitchen were made from old heart pine lumber that came out of an old plantation in Caruthers, Georgia.
