The Turner-Smith-Manning House

The Turner-Smith-Manning House, c. 1904
315 Kennesaw Avenue

The land for this home was acquired from the Archibald Howell estate, which originally consisted of 760 acres. Major Howell was a pioneer settler of Cobb County and reputed to be the richest man in Marietta prior to the Civil War.

Mary Turner built this “homestead” style house in 1904. Ms. Turner was instrumental in starting the Marietta Woman’s Garden Club, the first garden club in Marietta and was known for her rose garden. After a fire in 1999, the house was renovated. The back porch was expanded and glassed in to create a sunroom and the attic became additional living space. The current owner, Jane Manning, bought the house in 2006.
