The Minshew-Coons House, c. 1943
225 Maple Avenue
Small, economical & practical Cape Cod style houses were built across America in the 1930’s & 1940’s. This house was erected in 1943 by the R & W Construction Co. It was part of a neighborhood called Westpark – a group of 27 houses built in the early 1940’s along Polk, Cleburne, Walthal and Maple. The entire development cost approximately $120,000 and each of the houses sold for $4,250.
The first owners, the Minshews, purchased the home from the builder, Francis Shoup, in 1943. Later, Mr. Coons bought the property and lived there for 30 years. In 1997, Michael Hodnett acquired the property and did extensive renovation to the house. Michael researched every detail and restored it, as it would have been in the 1940’s. The current resident is Janet Hosler.
