J.D. Dawson built this lovely Victorian-style home in 1900. He sold the newly-constructed house to Emily Tally Welsh, whose family had relocated from New Orleans two years earlier, for $2,500. The house was to remain in the Welsh family for 75 years. After Mrs. Welsh’s death in 1924, the “home place” passed to her three children, Ava, Lois & Stanley. Subsequently the house was sold to Mary Audrey & Jim Apple and then Omar & Sandra Bennett. The current owners, Brenda & Jack Lyle acquired the property in 2002.
The house has had no additions and still maintains its original footprint. At one time the back porch was enclosed to make a breakfast room. The house has a wrap-around front porch, six fireplaces, the original wood floors and the carriage house is still standing.
