This charming Victorian cottage-style house, with wrap-around front porch, was built by L. Black & Sons. James E.W. Fields, his wife Mary and their family moved into the house on April 18, 1901. Mr. Fields was the traffic manager for the Atlanta, Knoxville & Northern Railroad. E.H. & Sallie Northcutt owned the home from 1907-1947. Mr. Northcutt owned a clothing store on North Park Square called E. H. Northcutt & Co. Dry Goods. The Northcutt’s daughter, Irene, married Judge Harold Hawkins and later lived across the street in the McNeel-Hawkins-Hamrick House. Subsequently, the house was owned by Dr. Means, who had a medical practice on the Square.
The current owners are Tricia and Les Granger. The house is beautifully restored and incorporates architectural antiques from Mr. Granger’s grandmother’s house in Woodstock.
